Born in Ottawa, Canada in 1968, I knew early on that I wanted to become an artist. At a time when most Canadian families were investing in a cottage by a lake, my parents decided to take their family on a trip of a life time throughout Europe. I was nine at the time. Although I may not have understood the scope of history of what we were seeing, the experience left an indelible mark on my life. During this trip, without a doubt, it was the time we spent in Poland, my father’s homeland, that influenced me the most in my choice to become the artist I am today.
I started out at the Ontario College of Art to get my associate degree in drawing and painting. During my time there, I would scurry off to the glassblowing department every chance I got. Through the door panes I would watch all the action happening in the hot shop. Everyone seemed so energized and happy!
Four years after graduating from OCA, I found myself at Sheridan College in the Craft and Design Glassblowing program.
Today I truly feel blessed to be able to blow glass on a regular basis. Within my glass work, you can recognize immediately what my personal esthetic is about. Using coloured frit, I create a speckled effect on the glass surface that is reminiscent of my painting.
Whether through painting or glass I have developed my artistic voice that is clear and recognizably my own.
