This 5 Part full weekend workshop is offered to help glassblowers at all skill levels build key steps needed in order to continue to refine their technique in glassblowing. The principle of this formatted ‘Bootcamp’ style class is to keep one lead principle in mind – REPEAT! REPEAT! REPEAT!

Part 1: The Gatherer
Good glassblowing starts with the very first step – the gather! Expect to get closely acquainted with the furnace as students will be going in and out of it repeatedly, practicing towards perfection while also rehearsing all the motions that go into seating at the bench smoothly and practicing some of the best warm up tricks of the trade.

Description:

If we’ve discovered anything about developing competence in glassblowing it’s – Repeat! Repeat! Repeat!
It’s only with continual practice that those ‘less than smooth’ movements can become more refined, ultimately resulting in better quality work.
For those in need of a little refinement!
Join us in our new intermediate training session, with visiting artist and expert glassblower Sebastien Duchange.
In what can only be identified as a ‘bootcamp format’, students will be taken through the glass blowing processes from the beginning.  Students will start reviewing basic skills such as gathering, then moving into bench tooling techniques.
Emphasis is placed on developing your skills and techniques; not the final project.
All materials provided
6 Students per class
Cost: $90 +HST

Prerequisites required: Beginner Series (Parts 1-6)

Flo – Live on CTV

We were thrilled to host CTV Morning Live this week in the hotshop.

Sarah Freemark interviewed a small crew of the flo members from 6am – 10am during the morning news and she too got her hands in the hot stuff, trying out the glassblowing process for herself.

Online aired tapings can be viewed on the CTV website. Or by clicking the following clips:

Clip 1: Sarah Blow’s an ‘oops’ ornament
Clip 2: Melody leads the process of a cup with assistants Ben and Steph
Clip 3: Sarah tries her hand at Flameworking

NUIT BLANCHE – ALL NIGHT – Glass Mayhem at Flo Glassblowing!

The much anticipated Nuit Blanche Arts Crawl is happening this Saturday all night long!

Flo will be open for the occasion offering the wackiest demonstrations we can think of to entertain the masses.

Hot Shop Activities:

6pm-8pm – We’re Cooking with Glass! It’s meet and greet appetizer time! Family friendly hours where we’ll be offering up hotdogs, s’mores and even some fresh popcorn made with the assistance of our furnace and some hot molten glass!

8pm-10pm – A toast to the hour! Detailed demos (with assistance from our students) making blown glass goblets and snifter glasses!

10pm-12am – Till the drop of Midnight! Testing our control with gravity, with students we will be making glass droplets and watering bulbs

12am-2am – Trumpet call! With the help of a large ladder, we’ll be blowing long hollow tubes in hopes of creating a functional glass trumpet horn.

2am-4am – Nuit Blanche glassblown trophy mayhem! Combining as many techniques brainstorm as a group, we’ll be making one final signature piece to celebrate the occasion!

Gladstone Arts friends in different mediums will be joining us all evening offering demonstrations in Ceramics, Find Jewelry and even building Violins!
